What is a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG)?

The European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) is a group established according to the Regulation (EEC) no. 2137/85 and the European Economic Interest Grouping (Implementing Provisions) Law of 2012 (161(I)/2012).

EEIG comprises of legal persons incorporated according to the legislation of an EU member-state and have their corporate seat within the EU and natural persons carrying out business activity in the EU.

The aim of an EEIG is to facilitate or develop the economic activity of its members, as well as to improve or increase the profits from such activities and not to make its own profits.

An EEIG can either be incorporated in the Republic of Cyprus or be established by transfer of seat from another member-state, whilst it can also set up an EEIG branch in Cyprus.
